Does the ENT division ever send representatives to the November PhD Project Conference in Chicago?
For those who are unaware, the PhD Project has been working for over twenty years to increase the representation of minority scholars in business schools. In addition to hosting a conference prior to each field's primary conference (in our case, a conference in the days leading up to AOM) for minority doctoral students, they also have a large conference in Chicago for minority students interested in a doctorate in business. All attendees either have a master's degree or are currently in the process of getting one, and the PhD Project fully funds their travel and lodging. Furthermore, from my own experience, the female representation within the PhD Project is a bit better than that of Academy as a whole. At least in the August conference for management doctoral students, women seem to noticeably outnumber men (in my own cohort, we have three men and seven women), and all three executive officers this year are female.
Holding aside diversity considerations, the Chicago conference is a wonderful opportunity for business schools to get a leg up in recruitment and generally spreading the word about their doctoral programs, and it is a wonderful opportunity for the ENT division to help those entrepreneurship programs attract doctoral students. .
If diversity is something we take seriously, the PhD Project will be a willing ally.
