    Dear colleagues,

We are pleased to announce two events on Necessary Condition Analysis as part of this year's Academy of Management Annual Meeting. Necessary Condition Analysis (NCA) is a popular novel approach for formulating and testing necessary condition hypotheses and theories. "Necessary" means that an outcome will not occur without the right level of the condition, independently of the rest of the causal structure. The condition is a "bottleneck", "critical factor", or "constraint", and necessary condition hypotheses have been commonly formulated in the management literature. NCA can provide strong results that are complementary to the traditional additive logic and regression approaches and it also provides a new way of analyzing existing phenomena (see www.erim.nl/nca for more information).

We host two events: A Professional Development Workshop in which you learn to apply NCA and a Social Event in which you can ask any questions you might have and meet other NCA users.

    1. NCA Professional Development Workshop (PDW)

When: Saturday August 11 from 10:45 to 12:45

Where: Sheraton Grand Chicago, Room Michigan A,B

    Sponsors: RM & OCSM

The PDW consists of two parts. In the first part of the workshop, we will offer a general introduction to NCA, present several examples of necessary conditions, and compare the logic and application of NCA with the traditional regression techniques. In the second part of the workshop, we will help you to apply NCA to your own field, with hands-on instructions about how to build necessity theories, and how to analyze data for testing such theories using the NCA software.

Registration for the workshop is not necessary, but we kindly invite you to sign up via this link if you want to receive additional information and materials before the workshop starts

You can add this PDW to your conference program here

    2. Social Event

When: Sunday August 12 from 16:30 to 18:00

Where: The Chi Bar of the Sheraton Grand Chicago (Located in the center of the hotel lobby)

In addition to the PDW, we organize a social event during which you can meet fellow colleagues interested in NCA and ask any questions you might have about the method. The social is open for everyone who is interested in using NCA.

We hope to see you in Chicago! If you have any further questions, feel free to contact Stefan Breet (breet@rsm.nl) or Henk van Rhee (vanrhee@rsm.nl).

    Kind Regards,

Stefan Breet, Henk van Rhee, and Jan Dul
