Uninformed reviewers, "doubts" about your narrative, and (potentially) bias against qualitative research are all very real. While it is just as difficult to publish a quantitative as qualitative paper, the reality is, grounded theory takes a great deal of time. Given the pressures of tenure clocks and a field focused on "hits" how can we manage? In this seminar I will offer insights from my experience on: 1) conducting thorough and well-written grounded theory, 2) maintaining momentum on projects that appear to be struggling, and 3) writing and (occasionally) publishing grounded theory research.Recommended reading:
About the speaker:Jeffrey G. York is a Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship at the Leeds School of Business at the University of Colorado Boulder. He currently serves as the Chair of the Division of Social Responsibility and Sustainability (SRS), the Organizational Leadership and Information Analytics Division (OLIA), and Research Director for the Deming Center for Entrepreneurship. He received his PhD from the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia. Professor York's teaching and research are focused on environmental entrepreneurship, the simultaneous creation of ecological and economic goods. He is interested in how and why entrepreneurs create new products, services, and industries that reduce environmental degradation. Professor York has published qualtiative, quantitative, and theoretical research in journals such as the Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Journal of Business Venturing, Organization Science, and Strategic Management Journal.
