CALL FOR PDW PARTICIPANTS:
Stigmatization and Belonging:
Exploring the Dis/Associating Facets of Organizational Stigma
Professional Development Workshop
2024 Academy of Management Annual Meeting
10 August 2024 at Fairmont in Rouge Room
2:15 pm - 4:15 pm (CT)
We are excited to announce the continuation of the Professional Development Workshop focused on stigma research at the Academy of Management Meeting sponsored by the Organization and Management Theory division. This PDW aims to continue our successful PDWs on organizational stigma at the AOM meetings. Building on our previous PDWs, we aim to encourage theoretically and methodologically consistent research on stigma as well as identify opportunities for future research efforts. This year's PDW consists of three parts*:
- Keynote Address (45 Minutes): Looking to the Future of the Field: Organizational Stigma, Belonging, and Marginalization: Dr. Glen Kreiner (Chair of the Department of Management and the L.S. Skaggs Presidential Chair in Business Ethics Management at the David Eccles School of Business at the University of Utah) will offer his thoughts and reflections to inform research on organizational stigma and stigmatization, and will help to build theoretical bridges with related concepts such as marginalization, belonging, and inclusion.
- Expert Discussion (25 Minutes): We will offer an overview of recent organizational stigma research and we will invite PDW facilitators to discuss the trajectory of the field. The discussion will be open to all attendees.
- Facilitated Roundtables (50 Minutes): Each roundtable will be facilitated by accomplished stigma scholars. Facilitators will offer concrete advice to support participants in positioning, conceptualizing, and publishing their work. Participants need to submit a 1-2-page document with an abstract of a project and a challenge statement that outlines which issue(s) they would like to discuss at the roundtables.
*The Keynote Address and Expert Discussion are open to all AOM 2024 attendees, however, the Facilitated Roundtables are limited to those who have had their submissions accepted by the PDW Organizing Committee.
