The J. Whitney Bunting College of Business & Technology at Georgia College & State University is hiring a 12-month Department Chair for Management, Marketing and Logistics. This position works collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team of faculty to implement the Department's and College's goals giving special attention to the academic programs of study including our BBAs in Management and Marketing, our nationally ranked graduate degree in Logistics and Supply Chain Management, and participation in the highly successful Georgia WebMBA®. The Department also offers undergraduate concentrations in logistics and supply chain, human resource management, and sales.
Administration - Implementation of a Department mission including short and long term plans based on The University's Vision Statement and Goals and the mission and strategic plan of the College.Responsible for the recruitment, orientation and advisement of students, staff, and faculty in collaboration with the faculty, including an assessment and recommendation of faculty candidatesSupervision of all employees in the Department including administration of performance evaluationsAdministration of faculty and staff development programs, and recommendations regarding faculty reappointment, tenure, and promotionAdministrative responsibility in staffing classes along with the scheduling and collaborating with department faculty in planning the scheduleConduct program reviews to evaluate existing degree, accreditation, certification, and other academic programs and to include development of new programs and implementation of improved programs to enhance the quality of instruction, academic programs, and research.Management of School/College facilities and equipment in a manner that promotes quality learning in classroom and laboratories, where applicable.Support of graduates in their efforts to secure employment or gain admission to graduate or professional schools.Serve as the Department's representative and liaison with other University offices and departments.In conjunction with the chair responsibilities, the department chair is expected to carry a 50% teaching load during the academic year, either at the undergraduate or graduate level.Serve on elected and appointed committees and acceptance of other duties as assigned by the Dean.Fiscal Responsibilities - Administration of the departmental budget and collaborating with the department faculty in the planning of the budget.Leadership - The Chair, as leader, mentors and coaches Department faculty, participates in the development of school/college and university policies, and contributes to AACSB accreditation efforts. Additionally, the Chair will be expected to cultivate and maintain alumni relations, fundraise, work with an advisory board(s), and to effectively manage course scheduling, budgets, and personnel. With approximately 870 students with 20 FTE faculty and staff, the Chair represents the Department on the College's Leadership Team and reports directly to the Dean of the J. Whitney Bunting College of Business & Technology. The Chair also maintains and enhances connections between the Department and business communities to establish the vision and direction for the curriculum. The Chair supervises three faculty coordinators who assist on matters of budget, curriculum, assessment, and admissions/advising in the respective disciplinary fields of marketing, management, and the MLSCM graduate program.
Educational RequirementsQualified candidates for the tenured rank as Full Professor must have a terminal degree in any of the major fields of study within the broad multidisciplinary area of business (e.g., strategy, HR, OB, OT, operations, international, entrepreneurship, marketing, logistics and supply chain, etc.).Other Required QualificationsQualified candidates must be recognized scholars with active research records in their respective disciplines for the appointment at the rank of Full Professor with tenure. Other required qualifications:- the incumbent should hold tenure and rank of Full Professor at previous institution prior to appointment at GCSU; senior associate professors will be considered;- a record of exemplary teaching within the candidate's area of specialization;- excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills- a demonstrated ability to work effectively with external constituencies;- a passion for working with and mentoring students; and- All GCSU faculty share the responsibility of teaching our core curriculum and providing foundation courses for majors and non-majors alike.
