The Rotman School of Management and the Faculty of Arts and Science at the University of Toronto invite applications for a full-time tenure stream appointment. The appointment will be 51% in the Strategic Management area at Rotman and 49% in the Department of Economics in the Faculty of Arts and Science (A&S). The appointment will be at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor and will commence on July 1, 2024, or shortly thereafter. The successful candidate may be eligible to be appointed as the Academic Director, Centre for Entrepreneurship
Applicants must have earned a PhD degree in Strategic Management, Economics, or Entrepreneurship, or a closely related field, with a clearly demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching innovation, and entrepreneurship. We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and enhance our existing strengths in Strategy and Economics. Candidates will have an established international reputation and will be expected to sustain and lead innovative and independent research, and to maintain an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program. Experience in teaching both undergraduate and graduate students in a management program is preferred.
Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence which can be demonstrated by a record of sustained high-impact contributions and publications in top-ranked and field relevant academic journals in the fields of strategy or economics (e.g., Academy of Management Journal/Review, Administrative Science Quarterly, Strategic Management Journal, Management Science, American Economic Review, Quarterly Journal of Economics, Econometrica, Journal of Political Economy, Review of Economic Studies), and journals of similar caliber, the submitted research statement, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades, an active research pipeline, and other noteworthy activities in the fields of innovation or entrepreneurship that contribute to the visibility and prominence of the discipline, as well as strong endorsements from referees.
Applicants must demonstrate excellence in teaching, including a strong demonstrated ability to integrate both theory and practice; evidence of effective communication and presentation skills; a willingness to undertake graduate supervision; and a demonstrated mastery of their subject area. Evidence of excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level will be demonstrated by teaching accomplishments and the teaching dossier, submitted as part of the application (with required materials outlined below), as well as strong letters of reference, and a strong performance during the on-campus seminar presentation for short-listed candidates.
In addition, candidates must demonstrate dynamic academic leadership, adaptability, and a track record of connecting and collaborating with multiple stakeholders within and outside the University. Candidates must demonstrate collegiality, visionary leadership, and an ability to mobilize resources to create a vibrant platform for developing and fostering entrepreneurship in A&S. Evidence of academic leadership will be demonstrated by a statement of past experiences in academic leadership, such as in the area of innovation and/or entrepreneurship, including prior accomplishments, future plans, or other evidence of leadership-related activities, as well as strong letters of reference.
Working collaboratively with the A&S Dean's Office and other units in the University of Toronto innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem, the academic director will have academic oversight of the Centre for Entrepreneurship, A&S's centralized innovation and entrepreneurship hub serving all 29 departments, 7 colleges and 45 interdisciplinary centres, schools, and institutes serving all A&S-affiliated constituents: undergraduate and graduate students, faculty; staff; and alumni. The Centre for Entrepreneurship operates on a six-pillar strategic framework: research, academic courses, co-curricular programs, venture incubation, venture growth and scaling, and community outreach. In 2023, the Centre will move into its new home in the Schwartz Reisman Innovation Campus.
