    Assistant Professor Department of Organization Sciences

    If you would like to schedule an informal meeting at the Academy of Management Meeting in Boston or the EGOS Colloquium in Edinburgh, please contact Christine Moser at c.moser@vu.nl.

    The Department of Organization Sciences is inviting applications for the position of Assistant Professor in Organization Studies. We are looking for a candidate with a strong research background that demonstrates a genuine connection to the research themes in the department. The candidate's main research areas should focus on theories of organization and organizational processes of control, resistance and change. Other relevant areas of expertise include various interfaces between organizations and society, relating to current trans boundary challenges from a social science (organizational anthropology / ethnography, industrial / labor sociology, or social / organizational psychology) and/or management perspective.

    Research in the Department of Organization Sciences comes together in the OPOS Research Program. OPOS stands for Organizations and Processes of Organizing in Society. The mission of OPOS is to advance the understanding of organizational processes through the lens of organizations as interdependent systems. Interdependence plays an important role in both internal organizational processes (cooperation and conflict between coworkers at micro-level and between teams and departments at meso-level) and external organizational processes (how organizations cooperate and compete within their environment at macro-level).

    The successful candidate will be part of the department's community of scholars, mentoring students (at Bachelor's, Master's and PhD level) and conducting high-quality research. They will have an active research program and a strong international network. We expect the candidate to seek external funding to support their research activities, from Dutch and EU sources, and across the public and private sectors.

    Teaching will take place in English or Dutch at Bachelor's and Master's level and primarily in the areas of organization theory, organizational behavior and methodology (either qualitative or quantitative, though we are open to multiple methodologies), including seminars and thematic courses. An important part of our educational task is thesis supervision. If they have not already done so, the candidate must be willing to obtain the basic teaching qualifications required by Dutch universities.

    Requirements

    We invite applications from candidates who:

    • hold a PhD in Organization Studies, Management or another relevant Social Science;
    • conduct research that is congruent with the department's research focus on organizational ethnography, organizational theory and organizational change;
    • can teach core and methodological courses and supervise theses in the various programs offered by the department;
    • are adept at obtaining research grants; and
    • are willing to take up administrative tasks related to teaching and research, as required.

    Conditions of employment

    We offer a position as Assistant Professor (0.8 fte - 1.0 FTE) with a dynamic, innovative and inspiring multidisciplinary team of organization scholars. You will benefit from a rewarding position and a supportive work environment in a department with a unique mission and outstanding academic quality. The position will lead to a permanent appointment on positive evaluation of your research, teaching and citizenship within a 4-year period. The salary will be in accordance with university regulations for academic personnel and, depending on previous qualifications and experience, will range from a minimum of €3,637 to a maximum of €4,978 gross per month based on full-time employment (salary scale 11 in the collective labor agreement for Dutch universities).

    • an 8.3% end-of-year bonus and an 8% holiday allowance;
    • a minimum of 29 days' holiday leave in the case of full-time employment;
    • the opportunity to save holidays for sabbatical leave.
