Select papers from the colloquium to be invited for special issue of Journal of Developmental Entrepreneurship
After successfully hosting the Kauffman Foundation funded Global Accelerator Learning Initiative (GALI) colloquium on 'Accelerating and Incubating Early-stage Entrepreneurs' in social ventures, Old Dominion University's Strome College of Business plans to host a colloquium in Transitional Entrepreneurship on June 19th and 20th, 2020.
Transitional Entrepreneurship
We use the term "Transitional Entrepreneurship" to describe entrepreneurs who are in a stage of significant life or career transition. We recognize that transitional entrepreneurship is unique and important because of its potential to impact both personal and economic development. The conference will focus on scholarship and initiatives launched across the world on entrepreneurship among:
- Military Veterans
- Individuals in economic distress
- Women
- Immigrants
We invite scholars and practitioners to submit manuscripts focused on entrepreneurship among the above groups. Strome College of Business will cover hotel accommodations for one author of every paper accepted for the colloquium.
Goal
The goal of the colloquium is to connect scholars and practitioners working on entrepreneurship among the above groups to spur research, teaching, economic and community development.
Conference Format
Keynote speakers/Panelists: Garry Bruton, Texas Christian University; Peter Roberts, Emory University. Additional speakers to be confirmed later.
Panel discussion, paper development and presentation sessions.

Conference Location
Old Dominion University's primary campus is located in Norfolk, VA, one of the seven cities that make up the historic Hampton Roads region of Virginia, a major recreation area with a population of 1.7 million. Home to the world's largest natural deep-water port and third busiest port on the East Coast, the Atlantic headquarters of NATO, and Naval Station Norfolk, which houses the U.S. Navy and U.S. Fleet Forces Command, Norfolk was recently named a 'Best City for Entrepreneurship' by Entrepreneur Magazine. The Hampton Roads Region as a whole is experiencing a surge in entrepreneurial activity through collaborative initiatives among the University and local businesses and government agencies. Norfolk, Virginia, has one of US Navy's largest bases, and the Region has one of the highest concentrations of veterans.
Much of the entrepreneurial initiatives at the University are facilitated via the
ODU Institute for Innovation & Entrepreneurship (IIE). The institute's nationally-known experts help Hampton Roads business leaders, veterans and budding entrepreneurs innovate and grow their enterprises.
Norfolk/Virginia Beach is a great location to visit, particularly during summer.
