You will be a member of an international research group with a simultaneously ambitious and supportive culture. We aim for outstanding research and collaborate with renowned researchers both locally and internationally. We also aim for world-class teaching in university Bachelor, Master and executive programmes. Our teaching is research-based and relevance, responsibility and an international focus are key. Our group fosters relations with a vibrant business community in both the Amsterdam region and globally for joint research and teaching activities.

What are you going to do

The core tasks of an assistant professor are in teaching and research. In the tenure track appointment, 50% of the time will be for research, while the teaching load will (maximally) take up the other 50% of time. Assistant professors are also expected to take up managerial roles, such as coordinating programmes or sitting on programme committees. Teaching will be at the graduate (MSc), the undergraduate (BSc) level or in one of the executive programs the Amsterdam Business School offers. Part of the teaching tasks will likely be in our courses and programmes focusing on entrepreneurship in the creative industries. Research is aimed at international top-tier journals, especially in the fields of entrepreneurship and innovation. In addition to research and teaching, you will also have ample opportunity for personal development. The intended starting date will be 1 September 2022.

    What do we require

Candidates should have or be close to obtaining a PhD (the thesis should be approved by the time the contract starts) and their research should concern the fields of entrepreneurship and innovation. We are especially interested in candidates whose research portfolio also concerns the creative industries. Candidates will be evaluated on their potential for and/or record of excellence in teaching and research.

    Our offer

The selected candidate will be offered a six-year tenure track position as Assistant Professor. Upon meeting the criteria for tenure as judged by the Amsterdam Business School Promotion and Tenure committee, a permanent contract as associate professor will be offered. The gross monthly salary during the first three years will be, depending on experience, between €4,207 and €5,211 (salary scale 11) based on 38 hours per week (+ 16.3% holiday and end-year payments).

After a positive outcome  at the midterm (after two-three years) evaluation the maximum becomes €5,922 (salary scale 12). This is in accordance with the  Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities, regulating employment conditions at Dutch universities. A substantial reduction in income tax (equal to 30% of taxable salary) may apply to non-Dutch candidates for the first few years of employment (subject to tax law). The University of Amsterdam also offers a very attractive pension scheme.
