    Call for PDW participants:

Genesis and Dynamics of Brokerage Position; Network Change and Dynamics

    Scheduled:

Friday, Aug 10 2018 1:00PM - 2:30PM at Marriott Chicago Downtown - Magnificent Mile in Addison Marriott Ballroom

Organizers: Kwangjun An & Elena Obukhova, McGill University

    PDW overview:

While researchers have made considerable progress in documenting and theorizing the benefits of brokerage positions, our understanding of how and why brokerage positions persist over time is still in its infancy. Improved understanding of sustainability of brokerage is important, not just because it informs theory on how networks evolve over time, but also because it reveals important and novel mechanisms that drive long-lasting effects of brokerage. Following our last year's successful PDW that explored temporal dynamics in the performance effects of brokerage, this year we turn our attention to discussing the genesis, persistence and instability of brokerage positions.

The overall goal of this PDW is two-fold: (1) to discuss what we do know and do not know about brokerage dynamics, as well as network dynamics in general; and (2) to generate meaningful conversations across levels of analysis, theories and methodologies to stimulate future research in this area.

We have invited junior and well-established scholars studying networks to facilitate roundtable discussions. These include:

    Kwangjun An, McGill U.

    Richard Benton, UIUC

    Yoonjin Choi, Columbia U.

    Shelby Gai, Northwestern U.

    Exequiel Hernandez, U. of Pennsylvania

    Elena Obukhova, McGill U.

    Chris Rider, Georgetown U.

    Sampsa Samila, IESE

    Ned Smith, Northwestern U.

    Aks Zaheer, U. of Minnesota

    Registration:

Pre-registration required (No Password; Program Link: https://my.aom.org/program2018/SessionDetails.aspx?sid=15178); All are welcome!

    Research Summary Submission:

If you want more targeted feedback from the panelists about your current research project, or if you would like to discuss a new research idea with the panelists and other participants at the roundtables, please submit a 1-2 page abstract describing a current research project or new research idea to kwangjun.an@mcgill.ca or elena.obukhova@mcgill.ca by July 15, 2018. However, the submission of this summary is NOT required for participation in the PDW.
