Please join us for a panel symposium on Network Robustness and Resilience: How Networked Systems Withstand and Recover from Disruptions!

Decades of network research have conceptualized network change as gradual and incremental, focused largely on microdynamics of tie formation and dissolution, and with an interest in private advantage accruing to individuals or organizations. Yet increasingly frequent shocks, such as pandemics, wars, climate disruptions, and political sanctions, reveal a new network reality characterized by punctuated, system-wide change with implications for collective outcomes.

This panel symposium brings together insights from interorganizational and interpersonal networks to develop a robustness–resilience perspective on networked cooperative systems. Panelists Madeline Kneeland, David Krackhardt, Sameer Srivastava, and Maxim Sytch will explore theoretical tensions, methodological implications, and practical design challenges associated with networks that are not only efficient in stable times, but capable of withstanding and recovering from disruptions.
