The Department of Management, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship (MIE) embodies excellence in research, teaching and industry engagement in the areas of management, innovation, and entrepreneurship. Highly interdisciplinary in nature, the MIE department has 25 full-time tenure track and professional (non tenure track) faculty. The MIE department is a diverse group of scholars whose research focuses on leadership, human resource management, innovation management, entrepreneurship, strategy, organizational behavior, and technology commercialization.
MIE faculty conduct high-quality, impactful research published in such journals as AMR, AMJ, SMJ, JAP, JOM, Org. Science, Mgt. Science, Personnel Psychology, OBHDP, SEJ, JBV, ETP, JIBS, JMS, HBR, Sloan Management Review, among others. Faculty hold or have held roles as Associate Editors for such journals as AMJ, JBV, ETP, JBVI, and Family Business Review.
The department contributes to the BS Business Administration degree and the MBA degree. MIE is one of four departments in Poole College, the others being Accounting, Business Management (which houses Finance, Marketing, Supply Chain and IT/Analytics) and Economics. The Position
The Department Head must provide intellectual and organizational leadership and effective management to academic, research, and extension programs in a dynamic department with a strong reputation for excellence. The Head will create an environment that facilitates an effective shared vision; a highly productive, innovative, entrepreneurial, and collegial faculty and staff; collaborative opportunities; and, a mutually supportive, diverse and intellectually stimulating environment for faculty, staff, and students.
As the Department's academic leader and administrative officer, this position will lead faculty and staff in implementing and enhancing the undergraduate and graduate programs, and outreach activities to ensure that the programs remain responsive to the evolving needs of students and stakeholders. The Head will administer and manage the Department's academic affairs, personnel, finances, and physical facilities. We are particularly interested in candidates who have demonstrated experience engaging with diversity through activities such as fostering an inclusive environment, working with students from diverse backgrounds, and/or incorporating diverse perspectives in research.
This position will also represent, promote and advocate for the Department within the Poole College of Management and the University; interact with alumni and other private and public stakeholders; and, assist in attracting external support for educational programs, research initiatives and centers. This is a 12-month position. The department head reports directly to the Dean of the Poole College of Management.
Qualifications
Qualified candidates will possess the required doctor's degree, an equivalent degree, or equivalent professional experience and the credentials to be appointed at the rank of Professor with tenure in the department. Qualified candidates should also possess an exemplary scholarly research record with a focus on management and related areas as well as evidence of classroom excellence at both the graduate and undergraduate level. Preference will be given to candidates that can demonstrate an ability for highly effective administrative leadership and management of a multi-function department, and an understanding and appreciation of the evolving mission of the land-grant university system. This includes an understanding of the opportunities and constraints facing faculty and departments in public research and education institutions. In addition, experience with personnel management and participatory decision-making is also preferred.
