The Department of Entrepreneurship, the John W. Altman Institute for Entrepreneurship, and the Leading the Integration of Faith and Entrepreneurship (L.I.F.E.) Research Lab in the Farmer School of Business at Miami University are pleased to announce the 3rd Annual L.I.F.E. (Leading the Integration of Faith and Entrepreneurship) Research Conference on Faith & Entrepreneurship.

The L.I.F.E. Research Conference, directed by Dr. Brett Smith at Miami University, is one of the first international conferences to advance research at the intersection of faith and entrepreneurship. Building on increased academic research activity and extensive interest from participants in last year's L.I.F.E. Research Conference, this year's conference is designed to advance the research conversation of the relationship between religious faith and entrepreneurship.
This year's schedule and speakers include a keynote address by Ken Pargament to kick off the event, followed by a State of the Field featuring Joern Block, Kathryn Pavlovich, and Brett Smith. Two sets of concurrent panels give participants the opportunity to hear about a variety of topics on religion and entrepreneurship research. See the panel descriptions below for more information. Attendees will have the opportunity to choose between concurrent panel sessions and then everyone will come together for a final workshop on theory development by Greg Fisher and Glen Kreiner.
Panelists can choose between panels, Institutional Theory in Religion and Entrepreneurship Research, featuring Douglas Creed, Jose Bento da Silva, Phil Kim, Peter Klein, and Roy Suddaby ; and Religion and Social Entrepreneurship: Research Opportunities, featuring Ute Stephan, Scott Newbert, Tom Lumpkin, and Reg Tucker. For the second set of panels, participants will choose between a panel "Identity" as a Focus for Religion and Entrepreneurship Research, featuring Erin Powell, Nick Mmbaga, Charles Murnieks, and Brett Smith; or Researching the Role of Religion on Entrepreneurial Action, with Lowell Busenitz, William Gartner, Lou Marino, Rob Pidduck, and David Townsend.
Our hope for the 2023 conference is to continue the conversation, to advance practically relevant, academically rigorous research toward publication in premiere entrepreneurship and management journals. Over the past year, we've seen important progress at this intersection with publications in leading entrepreneurship (e.g., Smith, Lawson, Jones, Holcomb, Minnich, 2022, JBE) and management (Gümüsay, Smets, Morris, 2020, AMJ) journals. Additional traction can be seen in the forthcoming special issue in Small Business Economics on Religion & Entrepreneurship (Janssen, Hoogendoorn, Rietveld, van Burg & Dejardin).
