Eagle, the Lunar Module that carried Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, could not have reached the Moon without complementary technologies like the Saturn V rocket.

The Hubble Space Telescope has mesmerized us since the 1990s with stunning images from the heart of the universe, thanks to complementary technologies such as CCD electronic image sensors.

To explore the role of complementarities in the "new space" sector and its potential to extend existing theoretical frameworks, Petteri Leppanen and I are organizing a panel symposium at the upcoming AOM conference. Initiating rigorous academic discourse on this topic is both timely and essential. While theories in strategic management highlight the importance of complementary technologies, the "new space" sector may present novel opportunities for theorizing and empirical testing.

We have assembled a panel of expert scholars at the intersection of emerging industries and innovation strategies. Our panel will share insights from organizational learning, industry evolution, innovation ecosystems, technology strategy, and other perspectives.

The presentations will be followed by a moderated discussion and the opportunity for the audience to interact with the panelists. We hope you will be able to join us and enrich the discussion.
