The University of Oklahoma, Michael F. Price College of Business, Tom Love Division of Entrepreneurship & Economic Development, is pleased to announce that applications are being accepted for the Ph.D. Program in Entrepreneurship. The application deadline for next fall's entering class is January 15, 2023.
The EED Division strives to be thought leaders in the field of entrepreneurship and the doctoral program is an integral component of our efforts. The program has strong record of producing successful scholars who are leading the way in research and teaching at highly respected universities, such as Indiana University, Louisiana State University, Virginia Tech, Texas Christian, and Old Dominion. We are seeking to build on this rich tradition by identifying, selecting, and developing talented individuals who can be an integral part of the next generation of entrepreneurship scholars.
The EED doctoral program offers rigorous training in theoretical and empirical research in entrepreneurship and related fields. The building of research and writing skills needed to publish academic articles in premier journals is a core emphasis of the program. Complimenting this core is a desire to produce well-rounded teachers who enjoy working with students. The program is designed to place our graduates in faculty positions at highly regarded research universities, including our peer institutions.
The EED doctoral program follows an apprenticeship model in which students work directly with faculty mentors to learn the craft of research and writing. Students are treated as junior colleagues and in so doing, are expected to publish in leading journals, in collaboration with faculty mentors, during their PhD training. The EED faculty working with PhD students are highly productive. Their research appears in premier journals such as the Journal of Business Venturing, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal, Academy of Management Review, and Academy of Management Journal.
The program is a full-time, four-year residency program. Support includes tuition remission, a competitive annual stipend, summer funding, and resource support for attending key conferences in entrepreneurship. Students will also have opportunities to connect with initiatives such as the Tom Love Innovation Hub (I-Hub) that facilitates innovation and entrepreneurship at the University of Oklahoma and across the state. The I-Hub has programs designed to fuel the launch of new ventures and entrepreneurial projects. These creates opportunities for doctoral students to engage with practicing entrepreneurs and to conduct academic research on start-up ventures.
The University of Oklahoma campus is in Norman, a vibrant community of approximately 120,000 residents and is often ranked among the best in the nation in terms of cost of living. Located less than twenty miles from Norman, Oklahoma City is home to an international airport, numerous restaurants, retailers, NBA Basketball (Oklahoma City Thunder), AAA Baseball, USL Soccer, a world-class symphony, ballet, a traveling Broadway Series, and the Oklahoma City Museum of Art.
