We're excited to share a Call for Papers for a special issue of Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice on "The Startup Workforce."

Despite growing interest in startup employment, the people who build startups alongside founders remain understudied in comparison with other prominent new venture stakeholders. This special issue aims to provide a forum to advance the literature on early-stage employees.

We welcome work on topics ranging from recruitment and retention, to compensation and equity, to workforce well-being, to the role of AI in reshaping startup labor. Details on scope and submission expectations are in the CfP.

    Key Info:

    Proposals due: December 31, 2026

Pre-Submission editorial workshops: May 2027 (US) & November 2027 (EU).

Guest Editors: James Bort (DePaul University), Veroniek Collewaert (Vlerick Business School & KU Leuven), Yuval Engel (University of Amsterdam), Evy Van Lancker (Ghent University), Johan Wiklund (Syracuse University)
