The field of entrepreneurship research has long been critiqued for its limited focus on what Dean Shepherd refers to as NON-WEIRD (non-Western, Educated, Industrialized, Rich, Democratic) contexts. The AOM Entrepreneurship Division has taken this issue to heart and formed the Global Scholar Development Committee to address this challenge.
As part of this initiative, we are working to support scholars conducting entrepreneurship research in non-western contexts through local conferences, regional workshops, and virtual engagements. To succeed, we need the guidance and experience of senior entrepreneurship scholars who can serve as mentors.
We are currently seeking mentors for the following opportunities:
-
Out of (and Into) Africa Conference – November 10–11, 2025 (Virtual)
-
Indian Academy of Management Conference – January 7, 2026 (In-person, Pune, India)
-
Workshop on Entrepreneurship in the Middle East – May 2026 (Virtual- Exact date TBD)
- Diana International Research Conference in South Africa at GIBS- June 2026 (In-person, Sandton, South Africa)
We are committed to making this mentorship process both impactful and reasonable. Mentors will not be assigned more than 1-2 papers and will be asked to dedicate only 1–2 hours of mentoring during the session. Beyond this, we warmly encourage mentors to consider building longer-term relationships with their mentees, offering continued guidance as they develop their scholarship.
