You're invited to join us at the PDW "Using Formal Models in Management Research" during this year's AOM conference. It's a great opportunity to learn how to develop, write, and publish formal models papers, combine formal models with other methods, use formal models to identify and analyze research phenomena, and connect with scholars in the community. We look forward to welcoming you there!
This PDW is aimed at PhD students and faculty who wish to improve their skills as consumers or producers of the formal models, as well as those who want to learn more about this method. The PDW is intended for a general audience and does not require prior modeling experience.
Overview:
The PDW consists of two parts: a 90-minute panel session (open to everyone), a short break, and two rounds of roundtables, with 40 minutes per each round (requires a separate registration, please see the details below).
In the panel session we will address topics such as developing a good formal model, translating formal models for general audiences, publishing formal model papers, using formal models to identify new research questions and examine novel phenomena.
In the roundtable session we will have four roundtables:
1) Publishing formal model papers (Olivier Chatain)
2) Combining formal models with other methods (Gwendolyn Lee and Jin Li)
3) Developing formal models for rookies (Andrew Boysen and Anparasan Mahalingam)
4) Feedback on developing formal models, based on a short submission (Michael Ryall)
How to participate?
The panel session is open to all participants of AOM. To participate in the roundtables, please register and indicate your roundtable preferences through the online form by August 4th, 2024. We will have limited space in the roundtable session, so the places and preferences will be accommodated on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Please note that participants in Roundtable 4 will get feedback on the formal models that they are developing. To participate in this Roundtable, please send a short 1-2 page summary of your work and the questions you have in a PDF file that includes your name at formalmodelaom@gmail.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">formalmodelaom@gmail.com.
