Scholarship at the intersection of sociology and management has thrived, but discussion about the future of organization theory have mostly taken place in the discipline of sociology. Given the active presence of scholars of organization theory in management, as well as the evolution and expansion of the boundaries of organization theory, the time is ripe for a discussion about the future of sociology in management scholarship. The first part of this workshop, open to all, will be a panel discussion that addresses four key aspects in the intermingling of sociology and management: theoretical development, publishing strategies, networking opportunities, and future innovations. The second part of the workshop, based on applications to participate, will consist of roundtables in which participants engage with senior faculty mentors to gain individualized insights on how to develop their current research projects to maximize contribution to both disciplines. By fostering connections among the sociological community in management at large, reflecting on the present and future of organization theory, and providing opportunities for developmental discussions, the workshop will highlight organization theory's richness and potential, extending its continued vibrancy within the OMT Division and management scholarship.
The panel is open to all, but participation in roundtables will be by application only. To apply, please send the following to Jenna Song at jenna.song@kellogg.northwestern.edu by Friday, June 20th: 1. An abstract of a research project you are working on that spans sociology and management; 2. A paragraph in which you explain how the project is relevant to the workshop's theme of the future of sociology in management and outline what you would like to receive feedback on from faculty mentors. If you have any questions about the application, please email those to Jenna as well.
