Academic careers involve both research and teaching, yet many doctoral consortia emphasize only traditional research. The USASBE Doctoral Consortium for Teaching & Learning in Entrepreneurship is different, however. With the help of leading faculty in the discipline, the 2024 USASBE consortium will immerse students in the world of teaching and learning entrepreneurship, preparing them to both boldly teach in the field as well as engage thoughtfully with entrepreneurship scholarship.
The 2024 USASBE Doctoral Consortium, led by Director, Jill Kickul and Co-Director, Andrew Corbett, will return to a strong, in-person presence at the USASBE 2024 Annual Conference taking place January 10-14, 2024.
Building community through shared experiences is an important component of the USASBE Doctoral Consortium. Each participant will be
- Matched with a dedicated mentor (leading entrepreneurship scholar/educator)
- Assigned to a team (3-4 participants) to work on an entrepreneurship education and pedagogy group project with one of the editors from Entrepreneurship Education & Pedagogy. Team assignments will be based on shared interests and developed through an interactive activity held during a team building workshop in early February. Final project outcomes (research proposal or learning innovation) will be presented during a virtual Demo Day in May.
Program Details:
- A distinguished group of as many as 20 Ph.D. students will be selected to participate in this year's consortium. Participants must be doctoral students who are emerging entrepreneurship scholars and who will be pursuing academic careers in entrepreneurship.
- Only one applicant per university will be accepted.
- In-Person registration for the conference is required. Partial scholarships for conference registration may be offered.
- The deadline for application to the 2024 USASBE Doctoral Consortium is October 15, 2023.
The following information will be required for consideration:
1. A two-page letter of application that includes:
a. A personal statement about why you would like to participate in the consortium
b. A list of three to five pressing career issues/questions that you would like to know more about
2. A short (150-word) biographical sketch for distribution to all participants
3. A current CV
4. A letter of recommendation from doctoral program director and/or professor
5. A two-page statement of your teaching philosophy and interests
