    Workshop on

    "Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Regional Development –

    Concepts and Measurements"

    with Professor Maryann Feldman
    University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, USA

    May 7 and 8, 2018

    Professor Maryann Feldman, The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, USA, will be keynote speaker at this year's Jena Lecture in Economic Geography (JLS) In addition to the keynote lecture we will organize a two-day workshop (May, 7-8) that provides participants with the unique opportunity of presenting and discussing ongoing research projects with Professor Feldman. Interested PhD students and postdoctoral researchers are invited to submit extended abstracts or full papers addressing original research related to the topic of the workshop. Abstracts and papers should be written in English. Prof. Feldman will give her keynote lecture on

    "Financing a Future: Investing in Communities and Keeping Profits Local"

    on May 7, 2018, at 6 pm at the Aula of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena (main building, Fürstengraben 1).

     

    Maryann P. Feldman is the Heninger Distinguished Professor in the Department of Public Policy at the University of North Carolina, an Adjunct Professor of Finance at Kenan-Flagler Business School and a Research Director at UNC Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise. Her research and teaching interests focus on the areas of innovation, the commercialization of academic research, and the factors that promote technological change and economic growth. Professor Feldman is an editor of Research Policy and chairs an interagency working group on Science Policy. From 2014-2017, Professor Feldman held a joint appointment at the National Science Foundation as the Science of Science and Innovation Policy (SciSIP) Program Director.

     

    Background information: JLS – Jena Lecture Series in Economic Geography promotes the international exchange of ideas and knowledge in Economic Geography and related fields, especially between doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers. Each year, an outstanding international researcher is invited to Jena to present and discuss current research questions in an evening lecture and two workshops.

     

    Abstract Submission and application:

    Paper presentations: Participants having submitted the most advanced papers will have the opportunity of presenting their research. The number of participants is limited to 25.

    Applications and abstracts, accompanied by a short CV, should be submitted via e-mail to Susann.Schaefer@uni-jena.de by February 15, 2018.

     

    Important Dates:

    Deadline for abstract submission: February 15, 2018

    Notification of acceptance: February 28, 20187

    Deadline for registration of participants: March 15, 2018

    Final program available: March 31, 2018

    Date of the event: May 7-8, 2018

     

    Practicalities:

    Registration: No fee is required.

    Meals: During the Workshop, beverages and snacks will be provided by the organizers. There will be joint dinners on both days (self-payment).
