  • 1.  MBA Level group Assignment

    Dear Colleagues,

Hope everyone is coming back from a wonderful holiday season. I am interested in designing a Group assignment (3-4 students) worth 25% for my upcoming MBA course titled "Innovation and Entrepreneurship". The 25% can be broken to some sort of written submission (perhaps, 15% or so) with the other 10% on group presentation. The only thing I would not be able to do is customer/any external interaction in the assignment as Human Ethics approval has not been taken for this term.

I would greatly appreciate if people could share ideas/details (possible rubrics etc.) on such an assignment.

    Looking forward,
    Thanks
    Best Regards,

How would you like to involve your students in an international entrepreneurship game played with and against my students over the Internet? The game runs for the duration of the semester (late January to early May). I take care of administration. Your students pay nothing. I'll even supplement my offer with a paper-and-presentation application, GroupMaker, you can use at no charge.

If so, download the demo version of the game, GEO, from http://webapps.towson.edu/precha/geoapp/demo/publish.htm. For more information, go to http://wp.towson.edu/precha/ and click on DOWNLOADS.

    Happy New Year,

    Precha

    Saud,
One thing I've done -- but for undergrads, so I'm not sure its equivalent for grad students -- is to have a good portion of the assignment be an individual paper written by each team member, which aims to make a substantive contribution to the overall group goal.  In other words, have the assignment is putting the project together, with everyone's participation. But a portion is the contribution of the individual students, their tangible ideas and how they would integrate into the assignment.  I'm assuming this is parallel but different from a full business plan; here, students have the flexibility to focus on what interests them, and together their range of ideas may be stronger.  It also reduces the challenge in the group project, of evaluating their team-work skills.  However if this IS the business plan, then my idea wouldn't work as well.

    Thanks for asking!

    Dear Saud,

You can make each group to invest a small amount of money on their own, say USD200-300, and launch a micro business to run it for 3-4 weeks during the duration of your course. I have been running this assignment for the last many years at both the undergrad and MBA level quite successfully.

    Best wishes,
    Shehryar
