Family Enterprise Research Conference (FERC) is dedicated to developing a community of scholars interested in conducting research to further our understanding of family firms and create usable knowledge in the field. The 2018 conference will focus on cutting edge knowledge related to traditions, values, and legacy in entrepreneurial families. The organizing committee encourages submissions related, but not limited, to:
· The origin and evolution of family businesses traditions around the world;
· Traditions and their influence in intergenerational succession, management, and corporate governance;
· Psychological and sociological perspectives to study traditions in family businesses;
· Philanthropy as legacy; and
· Narratives for value creation in family firms.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Two types of submissions are encouraged:
1) EXTENDED ABSTRACTS
· No more than five pages, excluding references and tables (Microsoft Word document).
· Double-spaced with one-inch margins in 12-point font, using APA (6th edition) for references.
· Manuscripts may be submitted in English or Spanish.
· The following should be addressed in the abstract: purpose of the project, gap in the literature, importance of addressing the gap, manner in which this project addresses the gap in the literature, methodology used in this research project, summary of the results, implications of the findings for research and practice.
2) FULL-LENGTH MANUSCRIPTS
Authors interested in being considered for an invitation to the Theories of Family Enterprise (ToFE) conference linked to the Entrepreneurship Theory & Practice special issue need to submit a full-length manuscript and indicate on the cover page an intention to be considered for the ToFE 2018 conference. These manuscripts must be in English.
All submissions will be blind reviewed by members of the FERC 2018 Review Board. Please go to: https://openconf.org/ferc/ and follow the instructions to submit an abstract or full-length manuscript.
Accepted abstracts/papers will be presented in poster format at the FERC conference.

Special Issues
The conference is associated with the following special issues, whose editors will be available to meet authors:
- Academia Revista Latinoamericana de Administración (ARLA) special issue on family business
(co-editors: Isabel Botero, Ana González, and Luis Díaz). ARLA accepts papers in English only. - Cross Cultural & Strategic Management (co-editors: Luis Gomez-Mejia, Claudio G. Müller, Ana Cristina González, and Rodrigo Basco).
- Entrepreneurship Theory & Practice (ET&P). Based on received reviews, the FERC Program Chair will make recommendations of top papers to the special issue editors of ET&P, who in turn, may extend invitations to the ToFE conference. Up to six articles presented at FERC may be invited for presentation at the ToFE conference to be held in Edmonton, Alberta, at the University of Alberta on May 23-25, 2018. Invited papers can also be submitted for publication consideration in the special issue of ET&P co-edited by Jim Chrisman, Jess Chua, Pramodita Sharma, and Lloyd Steier. Reimbursement for travel expenses up to US$2000 per paper will be available to authors invited to ToFE.
- Journal of Family Business Management (co-editors: Albert James, Elias Hadjielias, Maribel Guerrero, Allan Discua Cruz, and Rodrigo Basco).
