Time is running out! If you haven't yet registered for the IAOM conference, you can still register now  at http://www.iberoacademy.org/conferences-home.

IAOM Program Highlights: The conference meeting will be held December 7-9 at Le Meridien in New Orleans, LA. If you've already registered, you'll be interested in the innovative program we have planned. Here's just a sample:

    ·             Plenary Session with Michael Hitt, R. Duane Ireland, and Don Hambrick is scheduled 9:00 AM – 10:30 AM, Friday, 12/08. Three prominent scholars will talk about their current research, especially featuring the projects they are most passionate about.  They will also eagerly interact with the audience, regarding trends and issues in the academic field of management.

    ·             Keynote "Building Bridges not Walls" by Herman Aguinis and Angelo DeNisi is scheduled 4:30 PM – 6:00 PM, Friday, 12/08. This presentation includes two keynotes addressing the same general theme of "building bridges not walls" but taking different perspectives. First, Angelo DeNisi, Albert Harry Cohen Chair of Business Administration at Tulane University, will focus on barriers that make it more difficult for faculty from any non-U.S. schools to publish in top-tier journals. These barriers are discussed in terms of whether they represent real limitations or stereotypes, and the discussion then goes on to some specific types of contributions that Iberoamerican could make to the field of management-contributions that are often unique to these members. Second, Herman Aguinis, Avram Tucker Distinguished Scholar at George Washington University, will focus on some barriers that prevent the transfer of knowledge from science to practice. Specifically, this presentation will focus on the current credibility crisis in management and many other fields (e.g., international business, economics, psychology). This keynote will describe reasons for the credibility crisis from a talent management perspective and possible ways of addressing these barriers to build a stronger science that can more credibly be transferred to organizational practices.

    ·      Meet the Editors' Session for Management Education Works-in-Progress is scheduled 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM, Saturday, 12/09. The Scholarship of Management Learning & Education (MLE) has gained increased prominence within the academy, as external stakeholders demand evidence of student learning and accreditors require institutions to show evidence of impact. In this session, the presenters – all current or former management education journal editors or associate editors - will discuss important aspects of authoring for management education journals, including the submission and review process, and examine the basis for establishing the impact of articles published in these journals.

    ·  ·   SMA Research and Teaching (SMART) Talks is scheduled 3:15 – 4:45 PM Thursday, 10/26. An innovative initiative–SMA Research and Teaching (SMART) Talks – will be presented immediately before the Business Meeting. This session includes leading scholars (Russell Crook - University of Tennessee; Bill Gardner – Texas Tech University; Patricia Lanier – University of Louisiana at Lafayette; Jim Combs - University of Central Florida; and Paul Spector – University of South Florida) who will present on topics related to their own career path in strategic management, organizational behavior, and management education. Each presentation will be an opportunity to hear from exceptional researchers and teachers, all of whom are contributors to SMA's mission and the field at large.

    ·             CARMA - Key Decisions with Structural Equation Models is scheduled 4:00 PM -6:00 PM Thursday, 12/07. Researchers wanting to use SEM face several key decisions as they design and implement their research.   This workshop will focus on several of these, including (1) type of latent variable-indicator relation, (2 judging the quality of their measurement model, (3) determining if their theory is supported, (4) how to test for mediation, (5) how to test for moderation, and (5) what results to report.

    ·       Doctoral consortium is scheduled 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM, Thursday, 12/07. The consortium is designed to serve as a development workshop for both doctoral students and junior faculty. For that purpose, the consortium has two major parts. In the first part there are two round tables, one to discuss and exchange ideas on how to prepare for life after dissertation and face the publishing challenge, and another focused on career possibilities (teaching vs research, administrative task), in different contexts (Latin America vs US or Europe/Spain/Portugal) with senior and junior scholars. In the second part of the consortium participants will have the opportunity to present their own research and receive feedback from senior faculty with a large and fruitful publication experience. Participants on the doctoral consortium will then have the opportunity to joint the special session provided by CARMA.
