We would like to invite you to our PDW session, "Borderless Innovation:
Integrating industrialized and developing economies ", on Saturday, Aug 7 2010
10:15AM - 12:15PM at Le Palais Des Congres in 510B.
Our PDW on “Borderless Innovation” brings together scholars from diverse
disciplines and perspectives to focus on innovation in a world of increasing
global integration. We highlight key issues such as new models of innovation
and commercialization of technologies, mechanisms for linking industrialized and
developing economies via participation in innovation, and innovation as a
mechanism for social and economic development. The PDW panelists’ presentations
will incorporate Q&A and dialogue with participants.
Topics will be related to the following areas: (1) perspectives on ‘borderless
innovation”; (2) linking industrialized and developing economies; and (3) the
impact of borderless innovation on firms, nations, and regions.
The panel includes David Audretsch who has pioneered research on
entrepreneurship and regional innovation. His latest book is Entrepreneurship,
Innovation and Economic Growth. Ram Mudambi has published extensively on
technology and innovation management and geography of innovation in leading
journals such as Strategic Management Journal, the Journal of International
Business Studies, the Journal of Political Economy, the Journal of Economic
Geography, Research Policy and the Journal of Applied Statistics, among others.
He is a Senior Editor of the Asia Pacific Journal of Management and also serves
on the editorial boards of several other journals.
Dan (Danny) Breznitz has conducted extensive research on Rapid-Innovation-Based
Industries and their globalization. His books include Innovation and the State:
Political Choice and Strategies for Growth in Israel, Taiwan, and Ireland (Yale
University Press), (co-authored with Michael Murphree) The Run of the Red Queen:
Government, Innovation, Globalization, and Economic Growth in China is
forthcoming with Yale University Press in 2010. Breznitz was selected as an
Industry Study Fellow of the Sloan Foundation in 2008. Jeff Furman has
published papers on academic science and the pharmaceutical industry, public and
private spillovers, location and strategy and national innovative capacity.
Megan MacGarvie has published widely on collaboration between universities and
industry in the pharmaceutical industry, patents and knowledge diffusion, and
patents and venture capital financing in the software industry. She is a
recipient of many grants and is a faculty research fellow at the National Bureau
of Economic Research. Gita Surie’s research focuses on cross border innovation,
technology transfer, distributed entrepreneurship and development and alliances
between entrepreneurial and multinational firms, and includes a book, Knowledge,
Organizational Evolution and Market Creation: The Globalization of Indian Firms
from Steel to Software.
Pre-registration is not required but recommended. You are encouraged to submit
abstracts prior to attending the workshop.
