    Winner of the 2007 INFORMS Dissertation Proposal Competition

     

    In this year's INFORMS Dissertation Proposal Competition, a record 82 proposals were submitted.  Based on a double blind review process, eight finalists were chosen from this pool of innovative and high quality proposals.  Yesterday, these eight finalists presented their dissertation proposals to a distinguished panel of judges at the INFORMS annual conference in <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:city w:st="on">Seattle</st1:city>, <st1:state w:st="on">WA</st1:state></st1:place>.  All finalists did an outstanding job of presenting their proposals. 

     

    I am pleased to announce that the winner of the 2007 INFORMS Dissertation Proposal Competition is:

     

    Heidi Gardner, <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:placename w:st="on">London</st1:placename> <st1:placename w:st="on">Business</st1:placename> <st1:placetype w:st="on">School</st1:placetype></st1:place>

    Account of Process and Performance

     

    And, the runner-up is:

     

    J.P. Eggers, <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:placetype w:st="on">University</st1:placetype> of <st1:placename w:st="on">Pennsylvania</st1:placename></st1:place>

    Organizational Experience and the Creation of New Products for New Markets

     

    If you know any of the finalists, please congratulate them for their accomplishment.  The other six finalists for the 2007 competition include: Marla Baskerville (Tulane University), Sekou Bermiss (Northwestern University), Denisa Mindruta (University of Illinois at Urbana Chamgaign), Chris Rider, (University of California, Berkeley), Mario Schijven (Tilburg University) and Karl Wennburg (Stockholm School of Economics).

     

    I would also like to offer my sincere thanks to the panel of judges who evaluated the proposals.  Each judge generously volunteered his or her time and resources to attend the day-long competition and provided the finalists with excellent feedback on their dissertations.  This year's panel of judges included:
