    Position

As part of a continuing growth initiative, the Department of Management of Tilburg University invites applications for multiple tenure track positions in strategy. One of these positions is at open rank, the others at Assistant Professor level. We are looking for candidates with exceptional research potential and strong teaching ability, whose work fits our orientation towards strategy scholarship from a management perspective. For a senior position, we expect demonstrated research excellence in the form of multiple top publications and other evidence of impact. We are open to candidates with interests in various topics and subfields – in particular international strategy but also corporate strategy, innovation strategy, etc. We are able to hire applicants to join the Department in any month during 2018. ABD applicants are expected to have earned their Ph.D. prior to taking up employment.

    Department and Conditions

The Department of Management is part of the School of Economics and Management at Tilburg University. As a whole, the department consists of 31 tenured or tenure-track faculty members and 10 lecturers. Within the department, the Strategy and Organization section conducts research in the fields of strategy, entrepreneurship, international business, technology & innovation, and organization theory from a variety of theoretical and methodological perspectives. The current members of the department, including its Strategy and Organization group, are listed at www.tilburguniversity.edu/mgt. In addition, during 2016-2017 the department hired seven tenured or tenure-track scholars with a variety of backgrounds: Erkko Autio (also at Imperial College London), Lien Denoo (from Ghent U. via U. of Southern California), and Ningxin (Jennifer) Wang (from Hong Kong U. of Science and Technology) in entrepreneurship, plus Amin Amiri (from U. of British Columbia), Spyros Angelopoulos (from Warwick U. via U. of Lugano/Swiss National Science Foundation), Sangho Chae (from Arizona State U.) and Marianna Frangeskou (from U. of Bath) in other areas of management. Most of them will join us in coming weeks. The department also has a high-caliber set of emeritus and affiliated faculty and fellows. The working language of the department and school is English.

The department has a very strong research orientation with a focus on high-quality publications. We aim to maximize the research time available to research-active faculty, and working conditions are otherwise comparable to major research universities in Europe and North America. The teaching load for pre-tenure faculty is the equivalent of two courses plus guidance of Bachelor and Master's thesis projects, in total per year (40% teaching time). Time allocation for more senior faculty is a function of individual performance and preferences, but research towards publication in top journals remains a priority at all ranks. Compensation is competitive with similar schools, and we provide guaranteed travel and initial research budgets. Faculty moving to the Netherlands may be eligible for a large tax abatement for a period of eight years.

    Tilburg University and Area

Tilburg University is one of Europe's leading universities in the fields of business and economics – indeed, it regularly ranks among Europe's top three by research productivity (e.g. UT Dallas Ranking 2017). The campus provides a green, academically centered environment with convenient transportation.

Tilburg is a dynamic university city located in the Southern Netherlands, within one of Europe's foremost high-tech regions, offering excellent social and cultural facilities and varied housing options. It is equidistant from Amsterdam (Netherlands), Brussels (Belgium) and the Düsseldorf/Cologne area (Germany).

    Application Procedure
