    Assistant Professor of Technology and Design Entrepreneurship

    The Mads Clausen Institute (MCI) at the University of Southern Denmark invites applications as Assistant Professor of Technology and Design Entrepreneurship.

    The starting date of the position is 01.09.2017 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position as Assistant Professor is limited to three years.

    The position is located within the Section SDU Technology Entrepreneurship and Innovation (TEI) at the Faculty of Engineering on the campus in Sønderborg. SDU TEI is a cross-disciplinary section that unites engineering and business researchers in teaching and joint research projects. The section focuses specifically on a holistic approach to the innovation process, consisting of the stages ideation, product development, process/production development and commercialization.
    The group has an international and interdisciplinary focus, which is reflected by the group members themselves, as well as by the number of international students with a variety of different backgrounds. For more information on SDU TEI, please visit www.sdu.dk/tei.

    The TEI section is seeking a highly motivated, outgoing person, who is able to work in an international, interdisciplinary research team. The applicant should be eager to work, to research and to contribute across professional, cultural and disciplinary boundaries, especially cutting across design, innovation and entrepreneurship. An active interaction with different kinds of organizations who are involved in (regional) activities and projects is expected.

    The successful candidate is expected to collaborate with existing section members on joined research projects, to participate in attracting external research funding and to actively develop the teaching portfolio of the section.

    Experience in research within one or preferably more of the following topics is desired:

    • Methods for design driven innovation and technology entrepreneurship
    • Qualitative research methods in innovation and entrepreneurship
    • User knowledge to foster innovation between multiple stakeholders
    • Design Thinking theory and practice
    • Design methods for prototyping
    • Prototyping in education

    Responsibilities

    • Publishing in high ranked peer-reviewed journals and conferences as 
      well as engaging in other forms and levels of research dissemination
    • Initiating fund raising - and playing an active role in securing research 
      funding to support the research activities of the section
    • Communicating the findings to the public in general and to regional 
      stakeholders of the university in particular
    • Active role in developing personal teaching skills and contributing to
      the further Development of specific courses and study programs at the section
    • Contributing to the administrative responsibilities of the section

    Application requirements and process

    Applicants for the Assistant Professor position must have a degree in Engineering or Entrepreneurship (Master or equivalent) as well as a PhD degree related to the above mentioned research areas. The educational background should ideally be a combination of design, engineering and technological innovation. Moreover, a convincing record and potential of research and publications is expected. Entrepreneurial experience is highly welcome. The applicant should preferably have experience with an active approach to prototyping in education.

    As part of the overall assessment of the applicant's qualifications, an interview
    may be applied.

    between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of
    Professional Associations), Cirkulære om overenskomst for Akademikere i staten 2015.

    Associate Professor in Technology and Innovation Management

    The Mads Clausen Institute at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) invites applications for an Associate Professor of Technology and Innovation Management. 

    The targeted starting date of the position is February 1st 2018 or earlier, if possible.

    The position is located within the Section SDU Technology Entrepreneurship and Innovation (TEI) at the Faculty of Engineering on the international SDU's campus Sønderborg. SDU TEI unites engineering, innovation management, and entrepreneurship scholars in teaching and joint research projects. The section focuses on the technological innovation process, from ideation and prototyping, through production and operations management, to commercialization. 

    SDU TEI is embedded in a region with a strong network of companies, including some of Denmark's largest global industrial players (i.e. Danfoss, Linak, Siemens, Vestas) and many manufacturing SMEs. Projects currently run by the group cover a range of cutting-edge topics, such as smart factory, digitalization, collaborative robots, lean automation, and innovative production region characterized by high mix low volume production. The group publishes in leading international journals on these topics, such as Creativity and Innovation Management, Robotics and Autonomous Systems, Sensors and Actuators, and Technovation.

    The SDU TEI section is a highly international and interdisciplinary group of 12 faculty members, with international students from diverse academic backgrounds. The campus is in Sønderborg, an attractive maritime town with an open Scandinavian culture and affordable housing and living costs.     The SDU TEI section is seeking a highly motivated, outgoing person, who is able to work in an international, interdisciplinary team. The candidate must be a team player and at the same time able to work independently. The successful candidate is active in publishing in technology management and/or engineering journals.

    The successful candidate should have a background in engineering or in innovation management with a strong focus on engineering topics, procedures and technologies. Further, she or he shall develop and implement research-project ideas with a regional focus and impact. We expect the field of Technology and Innovation Management at SDU TEI to grow. The candidate will get the opportunity to shape this development together with the team.

    Responsibilities
    • Taking a leading role in pursuing a research agenda in technology and innovation management
    • Publishing in high ranked peer-reviewed journals, as well as engaging in other forms and levels of research dissemination
    • Teaching at Bachelor and Master levels of SDU TEI's "Innovation and Business" engineering study programmes
    • Initiating fund raising - and playing an active role in securing research funding to support
    the research activities of the section
    • Communicating across different disciplines (experience in interdisciplinary research and teaching, particularly at the intersections of engineering, innovation, and business would be an advantage)
    • Playing an active role in the development of new courses and degrees
    • Knowledge and technology transfer to industry
    • Contributing to the administrative responsibilities of the group

    Application requirements

    Applicants for the Associate Professor position must have a PhD degree in engineering or business/economics, and a convincing record of research, development and management. The candidate must have significant teaching experience. Candidates with any kind of practical industrial experience will be preferred.
