Winners of the 2008 OS/INFORMS Dissertation Proposal Competition
In this year's Organization Science/INFORMS Dissertation Proposal Competition, 67 proposals were submitted. Based on a double blind review process, eight finalists were chosen from this pool of innovative and high quality proposals. Last month, these eight finalists presented their dissertation proposals to a distinguished panel of judges at the INFORMS annual conference in Washington, DC. All finalists did an outstanding job of presenting their proposals.
I am pleased to announce that the winner of the 2008 INFORMS Dissertation Proposal Competition is:
H. Colleen Stuart
University of Toronto
"Team membership change: A network perspective"
And, the runner-up is:
Marlys K. Christianson
University of Michigan
"Updating in the emergency department: How healthcare providers revisit and potentially revise their understanding of a patient's changing medical condition"
If you know any of the finalists, please congratulate them for their accomplishment. The other six finalists for the 2008 competition include: Catherine Long Anderson (University of Maryland), Colin M. Fisher (Harvard University), Spencer Harrison (Arizona State University), Benjamin Herndon (University of Texas at Austin), Justin Miller (New York University), and Rachael Shwom (Michigan State University).
I would also like to offer my sincere thanks to the panel of judges who evaluated the proposals. Each judge generously volunteered his or her time and resources to attend the day-long competition and provided the finalists with excellent feedback on their dissertations. This year's panel of judges included:
Maura A. Belliveau (Emory University)
Deborah J. Dougherty (Rutgers University)
J. Alberto Espinosa (American University)
Rachelle C. Sampson (University of Maryland)
Sim Sitkin (Duke University)

Timothy J. Vogus (Vanderbilt University)
James B. Wade (Georgetown University)
Finally, I would like to offer my thanks to Linda Argote, Editor-in-Chief of Organization Science, and Jennifer Kukawa, Managing Editor of Organization Science, for all of their help and support in managing the proposal review process.
