| This PDW will explore experiences of women entrepreneurs from Latin American countries, Canada and Germany who have high levels of education and confront important opportunity costs in the pursue of entrepreneurial activities. So, why do they start a business? PDW will discuss research findings to shed light on women entrepreneurs and based on women's contribution to economic development, and it will foster analysis on how countries can promote women as innovators in new and non-traditional women industries aiming to diversify existing industries with women inputs. The purpose of this PDW is to engage a group of panelists interested in research on women entrepreneurs in a formal, moderated, interactive discussion to (1) identify specific characteristics of women founders in each region; (2) deepen understanding why some women entrepreneurs succeed and others don't; (3) identify variables that support women's Opportunity- Driven entrepreneurial activity; (4) analyze how women impact and are impacted by regional entrepreneurial and innovation ecosystems; (5) examine the role of local culture and education opportunities; (6) determine implications of about research shows so far and future developments, and (7) describe if and how other countries (such as Canada and Germany) might adopt relevant Latin American practices when developing innovation ecosystems that advance women's entrepreneurial activities. This PDW discussion will substantially differ from others offered from developed countries perspective. The panelists will elaborate on the different possibilities to cope with Latin American regional shortcomings, and to what extent changing the public policy design is enough to overcome these limitations. |
