LAZARIDIS SCHOOL OF BUSINESS AND ECONOMICS

    WILFRID LAURIER UNIVERSITY

    CANADA

Canada Research Chair (Tier II) in Corporate Governance

The Lazaridis School of Business & Economics at Wilfrid Laurier University invites applicants for a Tier II Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Corporate Governance.  This is a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant professor or a tenured position at the rank of Associate professor to begin pending CRC approval.

Candidates must have an established externally-funded research record with demonstrated potential of becoming a global leader in corporate governance research. The candidate's record should include research pertinent to technology firms. Applicants will have completed their doctoral studies in general management or in a corporate governance related discipline, and have an emerging academic record with recognized potential for leadership in their field. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain a highly productive research program and provide effective teaching and supervision to graduate business students. The successful candidate will also play a leadership role within the Lazaridis School of Business & Economics and the recently established Lazaridis Institute for the Management of Technology Enterprises.

The primary focus of the proposed Tier II CRC will be collaborative, inter-disciplinary research on the major issues of corporate governance as they apply to growing technology firms, to influence thinking of policy makers, corporate leaders and institutional investors. This could include developing and publishing research on a broad range of governance issues facing technology firms and their boards of directors that includes but is not limited to: executive compensation; board composition, evolution and governance; global governance; board effectiveness; CEO succession; legislative and regulatory changes related to governance; director fiduciary responsibilities; shareholder and stakeholder activism; proxy voting.

The CRC will be expected to actively participate in the Lazaridis Institute for the Management of Technology Enterprises. The Lazaridis Institute helps Canadian technology companies reach their next level of growth through world-class programs; leading-edge research in innovation, management and disruption in the tech ecosystem; and the connection of international research, best practices in global scaling, and curriculum. Tier II Canada Research Chairs, tenable for five years and renewable once, are intended for exceptional emerging scholars who were granted their PhD less than 10 years prior at the time of nomination.  Applicants who are more than 10 years from having earned their highest degree (and where career breaks exist including maternity, parental or extended sick leave, clinical training, etc.) may have their eligibility for a CRC Tier II assessed through the program's Tier II Justification Process. This nomination is subject to review and final approval by the Tri-Agency Institutional Programs Secretariat in Ottawa. Contingent on success of the CRC nomination, the successful applicant will be offered a position at the rank of Assistant or Associate professor. More information on the CRC program including eligibility criteria can be found at http://www.chairs-chaires.gc.ca.
