Dear Colleagues,
With the gracious support of the BPS and OMT divisions, we offer a collaborative and hands-on learning experience for scholars doing research on aspirations and performance feedback, topics which have started to draw interest from scholars in divisions such as Enterpreneurship as well, at this year's Academy of Management Annual Meeting. The PDW on Advancing Aspirations Research: Building on the Big Picture will be held on Friday, August 4, 4:15PM - 6:45 PM at Hyatt Regency Atlanta in room 'Piedmont'.
Following last year's successful PDW on New Methods and Approaches in Aspirations Research, this year's edition will aim to take stock of recent theoretical advances and findings, identify the field's frontier and look ahead to future key questions on aspirations and performance feedback. Scholars seeking to advance their work on aspirations and performance feedback will be able to develop a thorough understanding of the main challenges and trends in this area of research as well as to receive personalized feedback on their work by leading authors and scholars.
In recent years, the amount of research on performance feedback and aspirations has steadily increased. Such work has created greater understanding of how feedback and aspirations influence strategy and decision-making in organizations. Even so, despite some narrative reviews of the field identifying common themes and challenges, the degree to which findings and models are internally consistent has not been systematically assessed. This also means that areas of greatest import for future study or opportunities for integration with other behavioral theories have not been uncovered.
In this PDW, we aim to provide participants with a systematic big picture overview of the body of research on performance feedback and aspirations as well as discuss how their own research fits into this larger tapestry. At the end of this PDW, participants will have a keen sense of how to answer the 'so what' question for their research. The ultimate goal of this PDW is to advance the Carnegie School – the theoretical tradition on which much of the work on feedback and aspirations draws from – and strengthen the behavioral strategy community within the Academy of Management.
We are glad to announce the following line-up of speakers and discussants:
- Richard Bettis; U. of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
- Daniela Blettner; Simon Fraser U.
- Philip Bromiley; U. of California, Irvine.
- Henrich Greve; INSEAD, Singapore.
- Stephen Smulowitz; IESE Business School
- Hugo Verver; Tilburg U.
- Marino van Zelst; Tilburg U.
