Job description
The Maastricht Centre for Entrepreneurship has a vacancy for tenure-track assistant professor in entrepreneurship. The Maastricht Centre for Entrepreneurship (MC4E) is part of the School of Business and Economics and is affiliated to the Department of Organisation and Strategy. The Centre teaches a variety of entrepreneurship courses at the Bachelor, Masters and Research Masters level, performs research activities in the area of entrepreneurship, runs inspirational event to encourage students towards entrepreneurship (e.g. Maastricht Entrepreneurship Week and Global Entrepreneurship Week) and has a (pre-)incubation program (LaunchBase).
The current position would be a tenure-track position of in principle six years possibly leading to tenure. The position is open for social, business and applied economics scientists with a PhD degree. The PhD thesis and/or publications should give proof of strong interest for the field of entrepreneurship. It is a clear plus in case the candidate has ample experience with teaching (entrepreneurship) courses. The task of the assistant professor is primarily research (at least 40%) and teaching (50%), with some service activities to the inspiration and incubation activities (at most 10%). Areas of research may include opportunity recognition, innovation by new and small firms, venture capital, incubation, international entrepreneurship, venture growth, technology entrepreneurship, etc. The applicant should have a clear interest in (studying) the actual act of setting up a business and be enthusiastic about the PBL (small group tutoring) teaching philosophy at Maastricht University.
Requirements
An assistant professor should have a PhD degree in business studies or any of the other social sciences. An important criterion is research quality. This may be visible through (forthcoming) publications in international peer-reviewed journals. Another key criterion is experience in teaching. The small group teaching system at Maastricht University implies that the applicant should have strong communication skills.
Conditions of employment
The position starts in scale 11, is in principle a 1.0 fte position and there is a research/travel budget available throughout the tenure track period. Preferable starting date is September 1, 2017.
