USASBE: Research on Why We Matter?

Hi, all - you've all heard that the deadline for submitting papers, panels/symposia & workshops to next January's USASBE conference is, well, soon! (August 15...) www.usasbe.org

Fueled by a terrific AoM preconference session on social entrepreneurship and some amazing conversations about economic development & the need for more entrepreneurship-centered research on public policy.... I would like to encourage you to submit on these topics.  What I learned was that there are a lot of papers on these topics lurking out there that you may not have seen as relevant to USASBE.

In particular, let me "nudge" you to submit to the Entrepreneurial Support Organizations Division. Not just because of the real world focus and not just because entrepreneurship as a field needs a lot more high-grade research that relates to public policy - but because most of us work daily in our communities. *We* are often a one-person ESO ourselves.

We need research to assess best practice, we need research to help ESOs do more/better to help entrepreneurs, we need research to help policy makers (and policy implementers) to design & implement effective strategies & tactics that will help enhance entrepreneurial thinking in our communities and thus nurture more entrepreneurial cultures.

For example, if people are doing imaginative work in your area - then craft a panel/symposium that will rigorously explore the "why" and 'how" that work is effective. We don't want to see good research on this - we want to see GREAT research.

In his Nobel acceptance speech, Dr. Yunus made it clear that not only is entrepreneurship important, but that the work that you do is a crucial ingredient. However, our stock of intellectual capital for entrepreneurship-focused  research into economic development and other public policy issues.... is sadly lacking. (Some of you are already doing VERY good work already; I look forward to reading your submissions!)

What you do matters to nurturing entrepreneurship, but we need a lot more high-quality, rigorous research on how & why (& where) these efforts matter. We can't move forward if we don't know what *really* work (and why).

    Will you join the fun??

    Norris

p.s. Also, don't forget there's a special track brewing on social/sustainable entrepreneurship... (hint, hint)
