With a growing number of novel management and entrepreneurship topic offerings at all levels in business schools, course designs have become a challenge.  Emerging management topics often lack precedents for course designs that apply in a contemporary context. Conventional pedagogy and syllabi sometimes fail to leverage innovative teaching approaches and technology tools.

The goal of this workshop is to portray the landscape of innovative course and syllabus designs for emergent management and entrepreneurship topics.  Panelists will speak to the question of how course designs have changed to adapt to new management topics, new teaching approaches, new technologies, and new formats for delivering courses. Following short presentations of course designs, an interactive format of breakout groups will engage participants to refine and expand these innovative course design approaches.

    Panelists:

Stanley Mandel, Wake Forest University:  Commercializing Innovation: A learning laboratory approach to engage students across different professional schools (Medicine, Law, Accounting, and post-docs).

Minet Schindehutte, Syracuse University: The Art and Science of Entrepreneurship: employing entrepreneurship theory as a learning vehicle for a university-wide honors course.

Oliver Schlake, University of Maryland: Teaching vs Experiencing Entrepreneurship-Just Do It! Examples from the University of Maryland's Fellowship Program for Entrepreneurship that encourages students to start their own business as part of their learning experience.

Bryan Booth, University of Maryland University College: Comparing hybrid, on-line instructional delivery and content with traditional learning models: The case of UMUC's Doctor of Management program.
