    (AOM Annual Meeting PDW# 11585)

    Saturday, August 5, 2017 (from 8:00-11:00 AM)

    Hilton Atlanta, Room 401

*Please pre-register for this event no later than July 24, 2017.  The session is limited to 25 participants.

What is the EMP?  This Professional Development Workshop (PDW) allows educators to become certified in the Entrepreneurial Mindset Profile (EMP), a cutting-edge assessment based on extensive research into the traits, motivations and skills of entrepreneurs.  The EMP feedback report provides scores on 14 discrete scales falling within two broad domains:  seven of the scales assess personality characteristics that have been found to distinguish entrepreneurs from non-entrepreneurs, and the other seven assess cognitive and behavioral skills critical to entrepreneurial success.  The feedback report compares an individual's (or group's) scores on these 14 scales to exclusive normative data from entrepreneurs and corporate managers.  Accompanying each EMP feedback report is a Development Guide which includes interpretive material about each of the 14 scales, suggestions for development, recommended resources, and action planning guidelines.

What is the value of getting certified?  The Professional Development Certification Workshop gives educators a thorough understanding of the EMP's development, interpretation, and application so that they can help their students understand the concept of entrepreneurial mindset as well as their own unique profiles.  After getting certified, educators will gain access to a password-protected Practitioner Website, become eligible to purchase and use the EMP with their students, and receive discounted pricing on EMP administrations.

How can I use the EMP?  There are numerous applications for the EMP in educational settings. Teachers and administrators from colleges and universities that have either academic or non-credit-bearing programs in entrepreneurship can use the EMP to help students understand both the concept of entrepreneurial mindset as well as their own unique profiles.  This exercise may be useful for students who either are, or are planning to, major or minor in entrepreneurship, as well as for students who are seeking even broader academic and career direction.  The EMP may be administered and presented in group settings or used by advisors and career counselors in one-to-one sessions.  The EMP may also have value as a pre- and post-test measure of the impact of entrepreneurship curricula.  A number of entrepreneurship educators are currently piloting the EMP for this purpose.

Key Benefits  Through certification, educators will:

    • Consider the relationship between entrepreneurial mindset and academic success
    • Gain an understanding of the background, research, and key principles of the EMP
    • Learn how to interpret individual and group feedback reports
    • Explore methods for incorporating the EMP into an individual course or larger curriculum
    • Receive a comprehensive EMP Practitioner Guide
    • Gain access to a password-protected Practitioner Website
    • Become eligible to purchase and use the EMP with your students/clients

    ·         Receive special discounted pricing on EMP instruments
