The Department of Management, Economics and Industrial Engineering of Politecnico di Milano is currently seeking applicants for full-time PhD positions in the field of Management Engineering.
Fifteen fully-funded scholarships will be available for next cohort starting in November 2017.
ORIENTED SCHOLARSHIPS
Six scholarships will be assigned according to the Department's research lines where priority will be given to the following topics:
- Advanced design and planning for rapid reconfiguration of production systems
- Big data & machine learning
- Collaborating spaces as a new challenge for organizations
- Global and sustainabile supply chain and purchasing management – in memory of Prof. Gianluca Spina
- Internationalisation in the information age
- Leading-edge developments in entrepreneurship research
- Logistics for B2c eCommerce: distribution network structure and picking systems
- Policy and innovation for social impact
- Radical innovation: leveraging on the interplay between technologies and meanings
- Seed and start-up finance
- The human side of smart manufacturing: alternative models of work design, organization and technology

TOPIC SCHOLARSHIPS
Seven topic scholarships will be offered in the context of the below specific research projects:
- Framing close-loop supply chain practices to operationalize the transition towards the circular economy: a multi-level investigation (a 4-year Double Degree Politecnico di Milano/KTH Royal Institute of Technology)
- Data analytics for decisions and policies in data science (a 4-year Double Degree Politecnico di Milano/University of Bologna)
- Design thinking: practices and tools that lead innovation of meanings
- Integrated production and maintenance planning in manufacturing: strategies, methodologies and tools
- Lean and industry 4.0 for operations and supply chain management improvement
- Measuring social impact: data and technologies
- Sustainability strategies and industrial reconversion
Those specific themes can be chosen during the application procedure by selecting them singularly.
INTERDISCIPLINARY SCHOLARSHIPS
Two interdisciplinary scholarships will be offered with the aim of supporting interdisciplinary research within Politecnico di Milano involving the cooperation between two different departments. Our PhD programme will be involved in the following interdisciplinary research projects:
- Robust Climate Change Assessment Under Risk And Uncertainty
- Information Management For Construction Projects 4.0
The candidate interested in one of the doctoral researches mentioned above (Topic and Interdisciplinary) should apply online to run for the scholarship and opt for the selected topic by following the instructions provided in the application.
The attainment of the PhD title in Management Engineering requires full time study and research activity of at least three years.
The scholarship covers tuition fees, office space, access to library, software and databases.
Candidates are offered their own research budget for travelling and they receive additional funds for study periods in top foreign universities.
Opportunities of teaching and tutoring MSc students are also foreseen.
We are searching for talented candidates with strong analytical and (qualitative and quantitative) methodological skills, who are eager to engage in research projects of relevance for both industry and academia.
Our Doctoral Program offers a personalized study plan to reflect the training and research needs of the student, while capitalizing on the strengths of our faculty. Candidates will have the opportunity to generate and publish research with faculty mentors and receive active support in conducting their own research.
