ESRC Post doc. AIM Innovation Initiative : Knowledge and Technology
Transfer, Innovation and Competitive Advantage: Past and Present.
Project leader Mary Rose, Institute for Entrepreneurship and Enterprise
Development
Project collaborators : Dr Sarah Jack, Dr Nigel Lockett and Dr Sarah
Robinson
Lancaster University Management School
The principle objective of this project is to explore how knowledge and
technology transfer was handled in the past and consider the factors
which inhibit and stimulate success. By analysing the forces helping and
hindering knowledge transfer in the North West of England, this project
investigates how to facilitate innovation in an area of regeneration.
The research will, therefore make a major contribution to the
development of sustainable competitive advantage in British business.
Resources alone are no guarantee to successful knowledge transfer and
this project will assess how, given a history of distance between higher
education and business in the UK, the flow of knowledge may be
improved.Understanding the social processes behind knowledge and
technology transfer are enhanced by examining historical examples of
innovative collaborations and setting them alongside contemporary
experience. Through an iterative process of comparison between past and
present this project will explore the way social relationships help or
hinder knowledge and technology transfer.
