Postdoc position for an expert on research methods at the Rotterdam School of Management
On behalf of its research on the multi-level drivers of European firm competitiveness, the strategy and entrepreneurship research group at the Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM), is looking for a postdoc with excellent quantitative research skills.
The main tasks of the postdoc will be to:
· help set up a large (multi-level) panel database on European firms;
· help researchers in the group to develop and execute research designs that enable the identification of causality in their research projects;
· help develop and co-author studies on a variety of research questions explaining the competiveness of European firms; and
· train PhD and MSc students in the use of quantitative research skills.
The ideal candidate for this position is fluent in English and has, or is about to acquire, a PhD in econometrics, political science, sociology, statistics, or any other related social science discipline; has demonstrated qualifications and experience in panel data analysis, multi-level modeling, instrumental variable regressions, treatment effect analysis, matching techniques, and other quasi-experimental research designs; and is proficient in using both Stata and R.
The appointment will be according to relevant conditions set out in the collective labor agreement for Dutch Universities (see: http://www.vsnu.nl/en_GB/cao-universiteiten.html) and will be for a period of 4 years. About 80% of time will be spent on research activities and about 20% teaching and/or training (quantitative research methods). The position will offer ample opportunity to develop one's own research agenda, and track record within the broader research interests of the strategy and entrepreneurship research group at the Rotterdam School of Management. Note that Postdocs at RSM can make use of the extensive data and research support facilities offered by RSM (see: www.erim.nl) and Erasmus University more generally. As such, the position is uniquely suited for PhD scholars from non-management disciplines seeking to transition into doing research in (strategic) management or business.
