    Dear Entrepreneurship scholars,

I am really sad to inform that Dr. Charles Hofer passed away on March 27.

Chuck is in between the people I admired most in my life. I will always remember the day when one of my teams won from one of his teams in a competition and he humbly decided to learn who I was and give me his compliments. After that day, I had the great chance to learn with him about dinosaurs, US National Parks and, of course, entrepreneurship. Back at Idea to Product Competition 2013 I, Tim Meldrum, Steven Nichols and Terrence Brown decided to give him a Lifetime Achievement Award for his career and we saw him crying. Behind all his knowledge, he had a big and sweet heart. As my friend Robert Warren said, "Chuck will live on through his writings and all the people he touched and taught during his career".

Rest in peace, professor Charles Hofer. I believe many in this group will miss your deep responses on many subjects.

I also honor Chuck for his many contributions to so many of us.  His scholarship, mentorship, and friendship have each been exemplary.  My condolences to Judy and Chuck's family.

We all knew Chuck for his scholarship---but what I found most impacting about him was his passion---passion for students and passion for entrepreneurship. He wanted things done right, but mostly he was engaged, always pushing for something better. He was a pioneer.

Chuck was one of those rare souls who wore his passion for entrepreneurship education and research on his sleeve. His work was required reading in my doctoral program and beyond. He was a regular at our Venture Challenge Business Plan Competitions. He brought color to our events and always kept us on our toes. Most of all I will remember him as a supporter and mentor to so many students at at all levels. Our field has lost one of our giants. RIP Chuck. You will never be forgotten!

In remembering Chuck, his energy, his passion and of course his strong opinions, we also need to remember that he was at the Forefront of where we are today,  first in the design and creation of the field of Strategic Management as we know it today ( Hofer and Schendel, Schendel and Hofer. Books, conference etc.) and in the transformation of a then non existent field of entrepreneurship into what we are today.

    Godspeed Chuck
