The following symposium may be of interest to individuals interested in cognition research across divisions. With the hope of encouraging audience participation, we invite any who may be interested to submit additional questions for panelists to discuss. These questions will be distributed to panelists in advance for use in the audience participation portion of the symposium. Discussion-question suggestions can be emailed to jrmitch@ou.edu. Apologies for cross postings.

The purpose of this Panel Symposium is to discuss the implications that cognitive research taking place in different domains of the Academy have for the scholarly understanding of issues that are relevant for entrepreneurship. To do this, our panelists explore the similarities, differences, and areas of interface between cognition research taking place in Business Policy and Strategy, Organizational Behavior, and Entrepreneurship. The panelists begin by summarizing the particular implications that adopting a cognitive perspective brings within their own disciplines. Working on that basis, participants to the panel then focus on two central questions: what are the implications of cognitive research taking place in Strategy and Organizational Behavior for the study of entrepreneurial issues and phenomena, and vice versa, 2) what are the implications of cognitive research taking place in entrepreneurship for the study of issues relevant to other disciplines of the Academy. Through lively exchanges among our panelists, as well as with participants from the audience, we examine how the study of cognitive phenomena relevant to entrepreneurship can advance research in several domains, just as research in these domains can advance research in entrepreneurial cognition. While the panel symposium pays particular attention to addressing the research challenges that lie ahead, our ultimate aim is to further integrate cognition research across academic domains.
