Colleagues interested in discussing the intellectual sustainability of the concept of "Competitive Advantage," please consider attending the following PDW and/or Symposium at the 2010 AOM Conference:
PDW

Program Session #: 348 | Submission: 10087 | Sponsor(s): (BPS, ENT, OMT, RM, TIM)
Scheduled: Saturday, Aug 7 2010 3:45PM - 5:45PM at Le Palais Des Congres in 511F
Symposium
Positioning for Advantage: Value Minus Cost
Program Session #: 1030 | Submission: 10088 | Sponsor(s): (BPS, OMT, TIM)
Scheduled: Monday, Aug 9 2010 3:00PM - 4:30PM at Le Palais Des Congres in 510A
The PDW will begin by highlighting theoretical and empirical challenges with the concept of Competitive Advantage and introducing the Value-Price-Cost (VPC) framework (or bargaining/value based framework) as a means to shift attention to value creation and value capture. Next, several distinguished scholars will argue how to resolve some of these issues by reconciling competitive advantage with VPC approaches. The session will conclude with an open forum Q&A session with the presenters on directions for future research in the area.
The related Symposium will provide a venue for additional discussion and debate over whether and how the VPC framework is an efficacious way to define and analyze positioning for competitive advantage. This session will also conclude with an open forum Q&A session.
