    CALL FOR PAPERS
4th Annual Symposium on the PSED
    Charleston, South Carolina: October 18 – 21, 2007

The purpose of this 4th PSED symposium is to provide an opportunity for
scholars using the Panel Study of Entrepreneurial Dynamics to meet and
discuss their efforts while they are “works in progress.”

The PSED is a representative portrait of entrepreneurial activity in the
United States that identifies individuals in the process of creating new
businesses. The PSED provides systematic, reliable and generalizable data
on important features of the new business creation process including
information on the proportion and characteristics of the adult population
involved in efforts to start businesses, the activities and
characteristics that comprise the nature of the business start-up process,
and the proportion and characteristics of those business start-up efforts
that actually become new businesses. Thanks to funding from the
Kauffman Foundation, this dataset is available at no charge at:
    http://psed.info/

It is our intention to build a “community of practice” about the PSED: A
network of scholars with a deep understanding of the value, capabilities,
intricacies, and limits of the PSED dataset. Our goal is to support PSED
research efforts that generate high quality scholarship that can be
    published in major academic journals.

The symposium will be held in the Tate Center for Entrepreneurship at the
College of Charleston from October 18 - 21, 2007. All expenses for
lodging and all meals will be paid by a grant from the Kauffman
Foundation. Participants will responsible for transportation to
    Charleston, SC.

In order to attend the symposium, participants must submit a working
paper, using PSED data, no later than September 1, 2007. Symposium
participants will make brief presentations about their current research.
Each participant will be required to discuss another paper and provide a
brief written evaluation of that paper. Symposium participants must also
agree to let us post their working papers on the PSED website:
http://psed.info/. In addition, a “proceedings” will be published of
    selected papers from the meeting.

For more information, or, to submit a paper, contact:
