  • 1.  Recomendations for Transcribing Interviews

    Posted 02-24-2017 12:30
Several colleagues and I are about to start a qualitative case study and will be conducting interviews with entrepreneurs. Does anyone have any recommendations for transcription tools/software to easily convert voice recordings of the interviews to text so we can do further content analysis of the conversations.

Please feel free to respond directly via email.

    Thanks for your help.

I had a recent post about this a few weeks ago and had a number of answers including both software and services.

Dragon was the number one mentioned software. "I use Dragon and the new version 6.0.2 is awesome. They improved the voice recognition and doesn't need training anymore." However, several people mentioned that there is no really good software, so, caveat emptor.

Several people suggested Rev.com which is a service that transcribes recordings for $1 a minute with high accuracy and fast turn around.  This was too expensive for me because I will have about 30 interviews of 60-90 minutes. It may be a good solution for you if you have less to transcribe.

Another response: If you have your team self-transcribing, I usehttps://transcribe.wreally.com , which helps you slow down/speed up the transcription and isn't too expensive for an individual license. Otherwise, I really find hiring someone from Upwork.com has been very helpful.

Another response: There is a company in London that does transcriptions of video interviews for me. They are VERY inexpensive and very good. https://waywithwords.net/transcription-services-united-kingdom/. Probably not worth learning to use new software.

    Another was Express Scribe.

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Fredric
