Hi
We have used Express Scribe by NCH, although there are many others ...
This is simple to use, and provides converters if the sound files arrive in funny formats (as different recording software uses different formats)
You can also keep track of the files and allocate them to different people to transcribe. It also has a speech to text option (voice recognition) but I have never tried this.
You can also use foot pedals with express scribe, and many other software forms, to play and rewind the audio file which is great when transcribing. Otherwise you need to stop typing hit or click rewind and play. With foot pedals you can improve the speed of transcription, and it has a set say 5 second rewind which is really helpful when you are having trouble with a particular word.
Hope this helps
Best wishes
A group of graduate students and I will be conducting a series of 30 +/- semi-structured interviews, about 60 minutes each, with social entrepreneurs in Ireland. We will record them and need to transcribe each interview verbatim for purposes of analysis. I Googled transcription software and was overwhelmed by the choices and my lack of understanding. Does anyone have recommendations for good software?
Thanks,
Fredric
