    Description
The aim of this special issue is to examine emerging research on ethics and social responsibility. As there has been an increased emphasis globally on sustainability, the environment and social issues it is becoming more important for organizations to embed ethics and social responsibility into their strategies. This has become more evident with governance mechanisms and regulations requiring the usage of a ethical and social responsibility stance within company structures (Dana, 2011). In addition, there has been more emphasis by consumers about ethics and social responsibility and this is shown in the increased buying power of organic and ethically certified products and services. There are numerous reasons for having an ethical perspective in an organization is linked to consumer buying power but also the increased recognition of the importance of being part of a global society (Dana, 1996).
Ethics is also evident in work/life policies within organizations that focus on how to integrate more fairer and transparent workplace. This is shown in more organizations having social inclusion policies and equal opportunity measures in order to facilitate greater diversity within their organizations. This ethical orientation is shown in the deeper understanding about how organizations, individuals and society can combine their initiatives to create shared value (Dana, 1991). More organizations are focusing on the concept of shared value as a way to highlight the interplay between ethics and social responsibility by showing that it is in everyone's interest to do this. In the past the emphasis was one sided by now there is a growing recognition about the role everyone can play when they collaborate (Ferreira, Dana and Ratten, 2017).
