The Family Enterprise Research Conference (FERC) is pleased to
announce its inaugural doctoral student consortium as part of the 2011
FERC, hosted by the Seidman School of Business at Grand Valley State
University in Grand Rapids, Michigan (see http://www.gvsu.edu/ferc/

Objectives: The consortium seeks to encourage doctoral students
interested in the scholarly study of family business, particularly as
it relates to meeting and interacting with future colleagues and
receiving feedback on their research initiatives and potential
dissertation topics from scholars active in family business research.

Program: The consortium will include presentations and discussions on
a range of topics related to family business research and education
including: appreciating the distinctive nature and challenges of
family business research, strategies for conceptual bridge-building
from mainstream management disciplines toward family business,
possible funding sources for family business research and the
publication strategies for family business research.

Consortium faculty: The consortium will be co-led by Reg Litz
(University of Manitoba) and Pramodita Sharma (Concordia University).

Alberta), Allison Pearson (Mississippi State University), Manisha
Singal (Virginia Polytechnic University), Torsten Pieper (Kennesaw

to be confirmed shortly. We also anticipate a special session with
representatives from leading outlets of family business research --
confirmed publications include Journal of Business Venturing, Family
Business Review and Journal of Family Business Strategy.

Start time: Friday's activities will begin with a continental
breakfast at 7:30 am and conclude with a 12:30 luncheon, which will
    launch the regular FERC conference.
