  • 1.  The Changing Face of Entrepreneurship

    Posted 02-06-2007 13:26
    Greetings -

I am a brand new PhD student just venturing into the waters of academic
research. I am beginning a theoretical paper that revolves around gender
and diversity issues in entrepreneurship (not quite sure the exact
direction, but am at least going to delve into those areas). Basically, at
this point, I am interested in the differential entrepreneurial successes of
men vs. women and of different races/ethnicities. I have found a multitude
of books and articles in both these areas, but was wondering if anyone is
aware of any studies that provide really complete and concise overviews?

    Thanks,
    Doan Winkel

    Hello, Doan:

I would suggest the source that Luiz provided in a previous post: GEM www.gemconsortium.org and in particular its Global Entrepreneurship Monitor 2004 Report on Women and Entrepreneurship  You can download the document in this link  http://www.gemconsortium.org/document.asp?id=478

This study was conducted by The Center for Women in Entrepreneurship at Babson College and the London School of Business with the support of universities and organization in 34 countries that compiled and provided data from Asia (3), Oceania (2), Africa (2), Middle East (2), Europe (19), North America (2) and South America (4).

This has been a great discussion in our Division!

For another individual-owner based measure of
entrepreneurship somewhat similar to the GEM
measure take a look at the Kauffman Index of Entrepreneurial Activity.
