SYRACUSE UNIVERSITY - WHITMAN SCHOOL OF MANAGEMENT

DEPARTMENT OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND EMERGING ENTERPRISES

The Department of Entrepreneurship and Emerging Enterprises (EEE) at Syracuse University's Whitman School of Management is home to one of the world's leading research groups focused on advancing scholarship in the field of entrepreneurship. We are now looking to further strengthen our research team and invite applications from Ph.D. candidates for FALL 2017 admission.

EEE is one of only a handful of academic departments exclusively devoted to entrepreneurship, and also one of the few to offer a doctoral degree in entrepreneurship. This places EEE in an exclusive competitive position as more and more strategy and management departments evolve towards entrepreneurship. Accepted applicants to the program will have the opportunity to study under the supervision of a group of world-leading scholars that includes: Alejandro Amezcua, Mike Haynie, Alex McKelvie, Maria Minniti, Todd Moss, U. David Park (starting Fall 2017), Minet Schindehutte, Johan Wiklund and Trent Williams. EEE faculty members publish regularly in the leading entrepreneurship and management journals. They also hold leadership and editorial positions at top journals and in academic organizations and conferences. The undergraduate and graduate entrepreneurship programs are also among the top ranked in the United States. More on the EEE program can be found here: http://Whitman.syr.edu/EEEannualreport2016

The aim of our doctoral program is to provide candidates with a deep knowledge of the field of entrepreneurship, and the technical skills necessary to design and execute rigorous studies of the quality to be published in the leading entrepreneurship journals. Our Department is now also offering a political economy track. EEE PhD students in political economy will be fellows of the Institute for an Entrepreneurial Society (IES) and will focus on the investigation of the legal, social, and political institutions that foster societal well-being by unleashing human creativity and productivity.

We expect accepted candidates to complete their study within four years of admission to the program, and pursue careers at top Ph.D. granting academic institutions in the U.S. and abroad.

During your time as a doctoral candidate at EEE you can expect:

    • Waiver of all tuition fees during the four years of the program
    • A competitive annual stipend to cover your living expenses
    • A research education tailored for a future entrepreneurship scholar
    • The opportunity to do research together with the internationally renowned scholars of the department
    • Competent and dedicated guidance from those scholars
    • Experience and training as a university instructor in our nationally ranked entrepreneurship undergraduate program

A doctoral degree in entrepreneurship from Syracuse University offers you a whole host of opportunities for the future. In recent years more positions have been available than candidates pursuing jobs. All EEE graduates have earned tenure-track faculty positions, including David Gras (Texas Christian University; graduated 2013) and Robert Nason (Concordia University; graduated 2014).

Application deadline is January 15th 2017 for admission in the Fall semester. All relevant information, including the application package is online at  http://whitman.syr.edu/programs-and-academics/programs/whitman-phd-experience/index.aspx . Please contact Dr. Johan Wiklund, director of the doctoral program in entrepreneurship, at jwiklund@syr.edu for any further information. Students interested in the political economy track should contact Dr. Maria Minniti, director of the Institute for an Entrepreneurial Society, at mminniti@syr.edu.
