Title: Handbook of Research on Techno-Entrepreneurial Ecosystems - 3rd Edition (Edward Elgar Publishing)

Question: How Technology and Entrepreneurs interact within the Ecosystem to spur the Development of New Industries and Innovative Companies

    Introduction:
The role of entrepreneurship in society is undertaking tremendous changes. From the inception of the concept to contemporary ecosystems, this concept is still widely recognized as the engine of economic and social development at regional, national, and supra-national levels. Though policymakers and theory often treat entrepreneurs as a homogenous group (at least from an ex-ante perspective), entrepreneurs seem to be very heterogeneous in terms of the ambition and potential of their ventures. Capturing these characteristics may be critical, especially in presence of high-tech industries. In this specific case, making reference to the term techno-entrepreneurship seems more appropriate. Techno-entrepreneurship is broadly defined as the entrepreneurial and intra-preneurial activities of both existing and nascent companies operating in technology-intensive environments. In this Handbook, we are witnessing a refocusing of techno-entrepreneurship research under some specific aspects.

First, we are in the need to deeply understand the way techno-entrepreneurs are shaping the evolution of high-tech industries and what is the magnitude of their impact on complex ecosystems like regions and nations. The way(s) they search for – and recombine – new knowledge streams, whether they are more prone to leverage upon specialization or diversification, the position they have in the complex web of inter-organizational collaborative endeavors and the role they play in enacting multiple stakeholders, may give a fundamental contribution to the redefinition of the ecosystem performance and processes.

Second, many techno-entrepreneurs pursue frugal innovation and reverse innovation to develop new products or services for under-developed or developing markets and bring them back to developed markets. What is interesting about this new flow of innovation is that it not only generates financial returns for techno-entrepreneurs, but also creates social returns for customers and users. Likewise, we need to get acquainted with the new modes and routines that techno-entrepreneurs are deploying to develop radically new innovations and path‐breaking discoveries that is the real engine of sustainable economic development.

Third, cross-border aspect of techno-entrepreneurship requires more attention from the perspective of immigrant entrepreneurship, as immigrant founders are an under-utilized lever for the revival of U.S. economic growth. In fact, Google was founded by Sergey Brin (Russian-born American) and Yahoo was founded by Jerry Yang (Taiwanese American). In addition, cross-border aspect of techno-entrepreneurship needs to understand the dynamics of cross-border IPO or venture capital investment that have been popular strategic modes for techno-entrepreneurs (e.g. Alibaba).

    Objective:
Twenty research articles grouped in a volume entitled " Handbook of Research on Techno-Entrepreneurial Ecosystems" will be included. We ask researchers in the field to present their work and results engendered by a wide range of techniques/methods in the field of techno-entrepreneurship. We expect relevant contributions aimed at identifying major characteristics, dynamics, ambiguities existing in this field.

    Target Audience:
The target audience of the 3rd Edition of this book will be composed of professionals and academic researchers working in the field of Techno-Entrepreneurship, including doctoral students and the 2nd and 3rd university cycle. The book can also serve as a supplementary handbook for advanced courses in the fields of entrepreneurship, multidisciplinary courses for students, graduates and doctoral research students in the field of innovation management. This book is a reference book for academic purposes in various public libraries, scientific, and university. The book also aims to guide researchers in the field to establish a true state of the art of techno-entrepreneurship as a source of a new industrial Renaissance.
